The owners hired Adam to design an expansion of the existing home for a full-time residence to accommodate their young family. The original building was a single-story ranch with less than 2,000 square feet on an oversized Carmel lot.

After successfully navigating an extensive design review process through the City of Carmel, including historic and planning reviews, the design was approved in September 2023.  The project scope includes a 2nd story addition with a total of four bedrooms and four bathrooms.  The 500 square foot primary suite is located upstairs and captures distant views of the ocean and Santa Lucia mountains.  On the main level, the living room was expanded and will feature a new vaulted ceiling with dormers to help fill the space with natural light.  New energy efficient upgrades will include a new gas fireplace, new heating and air conditioning systems, and dual pane low-e glass windows and doors.  The back private courtyard features existing mature magnolia and apple trees, and plans have been drawn up for new drought -resistant landscaping.
